I'm new to LyX but am excited about it and grateful for it because if
what it is and does. I had used word-processors only when I had to, and
have resorted to doing most of my writing in plain text. Now I think
I've found the best for both needs. Kudos to the developers!

One thing that's driving me crazy is how to type upper-bit ascii
characters such as the copyright and trademark symbols. I've seen these
symbols in lyx so I know it's capable. I even saw one in a doc I
exported to ascii in netscape and imported into LyX. I've SCOURED the
manuals including the character tables, and including being sure my
encoding is Latin1. But nada -- cain't find! The insert-special
character menu item doesn't accommodate it as far as I can tell. And I
can't input these characters with alt+numeric keypad ascii codes
either. I'm baffled!

Can someone help?

thanks much!
