Hello!

Would you please answer a few questions about Lyx and SGML, which I was
unable to figure out even if I read all the docs available around?

Platform: PC running Red Hat Linux 7.2 (standard shipped version) +
Lyx-1.1.6fix4-1, .rpm binary package.

Objective: to use Lyx as a part of a mechanism for producing
documents, quickly exportable as .pdf, .ps and HTML files,
*in Romanian language* (which uses the ISO 8859-2 set). So I try to use
SGML as the most "universal" language available.

1. If I try to write a DocBook or LinuxDoc paper in Romanian, all
special characters appear like escape codes both in the .pdf versions and
in the HTML ones. Is there anything I can do? My project is to start
traducing a few basic HOWTO's in Romanian and submit them to the LDP, as
instructed in the HOWTO-HOWTO ...

2. I am pretty confused about the SGML-related tools I have to use
together with Lyx. The up-to-date package is sgml-tools, sgmltools or
sgmltools-lite? Various documents I've read seems to be pretty innacurate
about that.
Are there any other packages I must install (except Latex and Tex, of
course, which are already shipped with Red Hat)?
>From what I've read, it seems SGML only "knows" latin-1 encoding/exporting?!

3. Is there any complete practical document/book about SGML, not counting
"The Definitive Guide"?

4. There are some type of papers (for example, a CV) that, upon me, simply
don't fit well in any class. For example, a CV would have both an
article-shape *and* a final signature, closing, etc. Are there any other
classes available, for other types of documents? The "special" ones,
mentioned in the "Extended Features Guide", are closed-circuit only (for
the co-respective organisations) or are publicly available for
mathematicians, physicists etc.?

5. I've visited Lyx's site, sgmltools.sourceforge.net and Oasis' site. Is
there any place where I can obtain updated info about Lyx and SGML?

6. As I've understood, XML is only a subset of SGML. Would I have the same
problem with "internationalization" in XML, in the perspective of
reading/writing docs on the newly-emerged portable devices?

BTW, the complete set of Romanian accented caracters is:

        accent-breve - a, A
        accent-circumflex - a, i, A, I
        accent-cedilla - s, t, S, T

Thanks a lot,
Razvan
