Yes, the babel option "french" is for B. Gaulle french.sty extension,
which is not distributed in teTeX (maybe frenchle is, though). The
'official' french babel option is 'frenchb'.

We tried to change the names in the GUI to maximize the chances that
people use the french package they need...
