why you didn't install teTeX by SuSE's default? I have used SuSE 7.2.
The teTeX default will be in:
/usr/share/texmf/ (from SuSE 7.2)

all of kind latex stuff will be there. You can install lyx anywhere in
your system. I have installed 3 version of lyx in different binary
directory (/usr/X11R6/bin, /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin). I don't have any
problem.
