It would be nice to have a default, say selecting somthing (like a+4) converts
always to inline math (or a settable default) and $a$ or \[a\] work as
explained above...

This way I could avoid some keypresses. Especially after dropping a part of
a formula (i.e. without the  \[ \] or $ $) I don't need to go to the start
and insert $, go to the end and insert $ and finally mark all of it...
(doing M-m d to toggle display/inline mode is far more easy here)
