Greetings, This is of interest to me also. Last week I was testing out X terminal software for MS Windows. I set up my RedHat 7.3 desktop (where I normally run LyX on the console) as an XDM server and set up the X terminal software on a laptop running Windows 2000.
I logged into my desktop via the X terminal software and tried various applications. A couple of the X terminals exhibited the problem mentioned with LyX--either the backspace key would only work once, or else the other keys couldn't be pressed twice in a row (for example, you couldn't write the word "bee" because the sercond "e" wouldn't come out). I couldn't get this problem to appear in other applications (eg. xterm.) I ran "xev" in these cases to see if strange keystroke events were being generated but I couldn't see anything obvious. The keycodes and keysyms were all what I expected to see. All the X terminal software I was trying has free trial versions, so if anyone is interested in pursuing this I can let you know which ones worked OK and which ones exhibited the problem. It was perfectly repeatable here and the only variable was the X server.
