I will re-ask this in hopes of getting a quick answer as time is of the
essence (the document is DUE).

I am having problems getting my references to format as desired. I need my
reference page to have references in alphabetical order by first author. No
matter what bib style I choose, however - even those I created myself with
makebst - all come to the same result: my references are listed in the order
cited instead of alphabetical order.

I have tried adding \usepackage{<a *.sty file>} in my preamble and I have
tried with no *.sty file in the preamble. I have selected many available
*.bst styles from the insert bibliography panel and, as I said, created a few
of my own to explicitly order authors alphabetically in the final page. In
every single case the references on my reference pages insist on being listed
according to order of citation in the document.

How do I get the references listed and numbered alphabetically?
