You need to put it in the texmf tree, perhaps under
~/texmf/bibtex/bst/
and then fix the configuration file under /usr/share/texmf/web2c ?
sorry, I can't remember the name of the file now. You can find the information
under the "customization" help file.
Then run texhash.
You do *not* need to include the path to the bst file. nor do you need to use the .bst
extension.
The important thing is that texhash finds the files.
