This functionality has been added to the wishlist (see for instance:
http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=706
and 
http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94 )

What I do so far is to keep the XDVI window open, so that when I 
regenerate the .dvi-file, XDVI automatically reloads it (this way I'm 
already in the chapter where I'm working)
