Problem solved:

After some thinking about the problem and looking at the file, I realized that the Eudora MIME encoding/decoding corrupted the file.  A direct unix cp between the wo machines worked just fine.

system:
newly installed lyx V1.2.1 running under apple X, Mac OS 10.2.4
Problem:
will not recognize .lys file (example enclosed) as a lyX file on attempting to open.  Error message "not a LyX file"
File  created under lyx 1.2.0 running under Cygwin Windows 2000 .
I am new to Lyx, Any ideas?
