the best way (IMHO) is by using Xfig to produce pstex/eepic formatted
graphics. You will get a consistency font in the document. I have used
this format for all my graphics in my thesis. In detail, I have used the
following format and tools:
- EPS ----------> raster images ---> GIMP (if need text, don't used GIMP
inset the figure in Xfig and add text)
- pstex/eepic --> vector drawing --> Xfig
- tex/pslatex --> graphic plot ----> Gnuplot (can also produce metapost,
pstricks, fig)
If you need a nice drawing, use combined:
sketch (EPS) --> xfig (+ text to produce pstex output)
Sketch can produce a gradation filling, but has no TeX output format. Do
not add text in sketch... Little bit complicated, but the quality is the
best...:-).
