I have a test box running RH 7.2 right out of the box where I would very much like to install LyX and was wondering whether anyone had successfully installed it on top of the same distro and if so what packages they used. I tried both an rpm and tarball install and both failed apparently because rpm Uvh --test and ./configure - could not find the xforms library. Rather than figure out why these particular installs failed and go through endless downloads to try all available versions I'd much rather start with packages that are known to install correctly for this particular distro.
I would probably prefer installing the latest stable version - more likely to get help if I run into any kinds of problems, I guess.. a binary rpm if at all feasible.. but all suggestions will be very welcome since I am not a LyX user at this point and only need a fairly current version for self-tuition & evaluation.
I searched google and the lyx-users archives but this does not look like a frequently asked question.
I would gladly re-run the installs and provide all necessary details if anyone is able to advise and has further questions about the problem I encountered.
Thank you, Chris.
