I have installed both... I think is similar, in the sence of
functionality. In the lyx-1.3.0 xforms-frontend have one more graphics
format which can be inserted than of Qt (or in apposite, I forgetted). Qt
have flexibility to choose fonts in the screen. Xform is more difficult
to do this... but there is not important in sence of type setting
capability.

You should install a ttfont for computer modern font in your computer.
This font can be downloaded through lyx website. I'm sorry, I forgetted
the link...
