Floatflt Figs...

Has anyone had difficulties using the floatflt package with LyX 
(perhaps this is a loaded question since it seems that graphics 
packages are prone to difficulties...)  I have tried using the 
Insert-->Floats-->Floatflt Fig command, without success (standard 
floats work fine, however...)

The LyX code compiles when I tell it to generate a DVI, but no figures 
appear.  No warnings or error messages either...  This actually may be 
a LaTeX problem, not a LyX problem, since I do not get the figures when 
I export the code as LaTeX and compile independently of LyX.  I did 
verify that the package floatflt is installed and LaTeX "knows" about 
it...

Any ideas out there?  I am writing a proposal, and I need all the space 
I can get!
