Centering figures

What is the preferred way to center an included graphic (say an EPS 
file) inside a figure float? Currently I have to first insert the image 
and then go to Layout->Paragraph->Alignment->Center,.... which (without 
the availability of a keyboard shortcut) is very cumbersome.
