can you tell us (a) what the entry in the relevant preference item (File Formats, DVI) currently says; and (b) where yap actually is? In particular, if it's in something like "Program Files" (with a space) then you may have to quote the full path, something like "c:/program files/miktex/bin/yap.exe".
