scrlettr2 is fairly new, perhaps you had an oudated version of koma.

I just compared
c:\miktex\localtexmf\tex\latex\koma-script (which I installed new for Koma-script)
and
c:\miktex\texmf\tex\latex\koma-script (part of distribution)
They are identical and the newest. I got all packages only a few days ago from ftp at Dante.de. I had rebuilt the filename database with the wizard of Miktex.
I used the recommended dummy script (I called it dummy2.tex) for checking the working of Koma-script:

\end{document}I got a log-file (see below) which looks normal for me (as a latex beginner). But if I replace scrartcl by scrlettr2,
