i'm getting a lot of strange errors when i try to insert a figure, algorithm, or table float and
view the dvi. the first error reads...(s**t i can't copy and paste from the LaTex Error box)...
oh well...something like...
Latex Error:Float(s) lost. \end{document} ....
I suppose that you have too many floats in a chapter/section or document without chapters/sections, which LaTeX canot handle. You should insert at an appropriate place in your doc a \clearpage (in LyX layout->paragraph->pagebreak)
