Using the 'text editor - LaTeX' combo is not unheard of. It's in fact what I do unless I use LyX (or venture into the dark realms ... *cough*) > So I downloaded and installed LyX. > > It looks very nice to me, but I would like to know from those who > use it on a regular basis what Lyx has to offer to a LaTex user. One usually builds a LyX .layout file for some existing .sty. Most of the time one could just copy article.layout or similar. Tweaking them is simple. > Is LyX very flexible (i.e. can I do everything I do in LaTex - > mmmhhh.. what a question :) )? Insert->Tex offers you a way to put arbitrary (La)TeX code at (almost) any point of your doument. > In short, I would like to hear the pros and cons of LyX in respect to > LaTex. The main 'con' is that you are no longer free to use a text editor of your liking but have to cope with what LyX offers.
