babel

I defined a new command in the preamble:

\newcommand{\RKe}{\selectlanguage{polish}Rafa"l K"edziorski}

but, using as ERT, I get this output:

Rafa"l K"edziorski

But if I put this {\selectlanguage{polish}Rafa"l K"edziorski} instead of 
\RKe then I get the right output.
Surely a babel-related detail. Any ideas to circumvent it?
