That's it!

One of things which changed radically with the latest GDM upgrade was
the locale settings. I finally switched to XDM to get back my English
interface (LC_MESSAGES=C) while being able to use german umlauts etc.
otherwise (all other settings are "[EMAIL PROTECTED]").

LyX seems to use LC_MESSAGES for the interface (speaking English)
correctly, but concerning the keybindings, it uses the LANG value.
Exporting LANG=C prior to launching LyX does the trick to get back my
beloved "ALT-p"... :)
