I am using AMS article document class and I would like to replace the label "theorem" (in the DVI file) by the French corresponding one. I tried to change it in amsmaths.inc, but I cannot find therein the proper place to operate the replacement. Could somebody here please help me?
try \renewtheorem{theorem}{... the french word ...}
