I think that only changes the color of the display, not 
what's actually being printed.  (And is not saved in lyx
file, etc.)  The Preferences->Colors dialog should do this,
but doesn't as of 1.3 (xforms).

This actually does not work for most of the colors (see my 
message to Reinhard).  What's happening, I think, is that in
LColor.C, when the colors are being written out, they are 
compared to a default set and only the ones that have changed
are written.  But that default set must be getting changed
somewhere (perhaps in the preferences dialog?), because most
aren't written even if changed.  But if you comment out the
test, everything is written, and if manually edited, will be
read in and used.

The problem with colors not being set turned out to be that most
of them weren't being saved, due to a comparison with defaults
(I think) in LColor.C.  They work if you edit the preferences
files by hand...
