Sorry folks. Just when I think I have everything under control again, I stumble over a new problem.
In one chapter I have multiple figures inserted in floats (all .eps format) and each one has been given a distinct label. In the text I reference each figure with a cross-reference to that distinct label. Curiously, when I view the dvi output (ctrl-d), each figure caption is properly numbered (Figure 8.1, Figure 8.2, Figure 8.3) but the references are all to "Figure 8.1".
