Thanks v.  much... however... the link seems to be dead and 
\renewcommand\bibname{fred} in the preamble gives an error with

prosper.

LaTeX Error: \bibname undefined.
\renewcommand\bibname
                         {fred}
Try typing  <return>  to proceed.
If that doesn't work, type  X <return>  to quit.
