Dear LyX users,

Could some one help me get math symbols displayed in lyx?

I'm running lyx 1.3.2 under knoppix 3.3, i.e., debian testing/unstable,
installed on hard drive.

I have latex true type fonts installed. I can see them with xfontsel. Within
lyx I can even select latex fonts (e.g., cmsy10) as my screen font
(Preferences -> Screen fonts -> Roman) and they are displayed properly when I
type normal text, but the math editor refuses to use them.

When running lyx as a normal user for the first time lyx finds the pfb fonts
under /usr/share/texmf/fonts/type1/bluesky/ and creates ~/.lyx/xfonts with
symlinks to these fonts in it as well as fonts.dir and . Then lyx -dbg 512
gives:

Adding /home/shomolya/.lyx/xfonts/ to the font path.
Looking for font family eufm10 ... FAILED :-(

with similar messages for the other latex fonts, and all I get is ERT for math
symbols. Weird thing is that when running lyx as root the math editor does at
least use the pfb fonts.

I tried the suggestions on lyx-wiki (except the one about upgrading to
lyx-1.3.3, because it's not feasible over my slow modem connection). I also
tried different qt & fontconfig settings, generating new fonts.dir with
different encodings, but nothing seems to make any difference.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Steve
