can somebody tell me the difference between the aligned and the split environment? I couldn't discover it.
I read that split doesn't allow more than one horizontal alignment, but this isn't true (see the test below).
it is! But I supppose, that you do not really understand the differences of the math environments of standard LaTeX and the ones of amsmath.
So what's the reason that split exists?
split:\[
\begin{split}2x+3 & =7 & 2x+3-3 & =7-3\\
it is not a good idea mixing non-amsmath and amsmath environments ...
