Hello, I'm a very new user. (I'm not even finished with Tutorial.lyx yet)
The docs warned me that lyx takes a bit to get used to. But I'm already
starting to like the WYSIWYM concept. At least I will once most of the
keybindings become familiar enough. But I'm having a problem with the
lyx ver 1.2.3 that came with my Mandrake Linux 9.1 distribution.
I Followed the advice of the Tutorial [section 3.2] to experiment with
the "Letter" textclass by writing a letter to someone.
Since I had a letter to write, I just waded in... After a bit of writing
I viewed the output and noticed a lack of page numbers. So I searched
for "page number" in the User guide and tried:
Layout|Document|(document tab)Page style|Plain
Then when I still didn't get any page numbers in the output dvi or pdf
file I tried:
Layout|Document|(document tab)Page style|Headings
Still no page numbers... <sigh>
Then even though the user guide said
> Fancy This allows you to create fully customizable headers and footers
> if you have the fancyhdr package installed. At the moment, support
> in LyX is limited to this setting. To use the full power of this
> package, you have to resolve to magic codes in your preamble.
> Check the documentation for the fancyhdr package for more details.
And I don't think I've got the fancyhdr package installed, I also tried:
Layout|Document|(document tab)Page style|Fancy
With the predictable result of no change in the output.
I may need to find and install the fancyhdr package to get the use of
the Fancy page style, but shouldn't I at least be able to get page
numbers without it???
What am I doing wrong?
Any/all help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
