At the moment, and unfortunately so, loading lyx onto windows is not
straight out of the box - if it were so then the list would have no one
asking the same old Win Lyx q's almost every week - this page is meant
for them - people who have firstly followed up the method on Ruurd's
download page and got up and running to a certain extent but have then
had the sense and gumption to come to the list seeking help - I'm trying
to condense that help and provide a second go for these users.

I seemed to me that some readers of the list thaught, they have to play with configuration scripts and converters altough it isn't necessary on some platforms. So that was why I wrote some annotations.
And I fully agree with you, that your install guide is very helpful for those, who tried out Ruurds instructions without success.

On the configure front: Yes it is again a daunting thing for a newbie
and as you correctly state much time and effort has been put into the Qt
front end. I have emailed Ruurd on 2 occasions with an updated configure
script suitable for Windows but as yet it is not included. See Vivek's
last email to the list with his configure results - no windows exe's
found at all. Now he has to go through the manual process of
configuration (is that not as daunting for a newbie?) that a tweaked
configure script can or could automate for him.

Seems that I missed something. I found Vivek's last email here:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg32835.html

but he describes a problem with memoir. I thaught I could help him with my reply to that mail.
But anyway, Ruurds never answers on mails. But he normally reads comments and emails. (E.g. I wrote him about including internationalized menues and three weeks later, it was included. He also fixed the image configuration.)
