I forgot to say that I used the following workarounds for this problem:
* Try a different browser
* Run the browser remotely, i.e. on a different system so something is
different in the network. (worked for me, even though it was the same
browser and OS though)
* Use 'pmwiki-mode' for Emacs, *and* run Emacs remotely. See

if you have a slow connection this works quite well.
Then there is also a wrapper script allowing you to use more or less any
editor to edit a single page:
