I wonder whether there could be something like an archive for lyx files and the additional stuff for it (such as figures, or several lyx files belonging to each other. It would help to keep things neatly together without bothering about pathes. So if I have finished work with a lyx file and all its figures I would evoke in Lyx: export to archive. Next time I want to work with it after perhaps having moved it to another place or even another machine I would ask LyX to open the archive and, voila, no problems anymore with pathes.
