It seems to be the subject of chapter 3 of the Extended Features. A short story might be as well in the user guide, and even in the tutorial. As far as compilation of viewgraphs are concernend, the info lies in rge class documentation (e.g. \frame[label=current] option with beamer, but mostly not available in layouts. -- Jean-Pierre
