This is the standard TeX way, adapt the column width to the content. Using the right-click table context menu, you can give the columns a fixed width (Where fixed can also mean a certain procentage of text or page width). This also allows line-breaking within a table cell. Once a satisfying table is set up, it can be saved as a template (in a simple LyX file to be used via Insert>File>LyX). > Also, is it possible to use bullet lists inside a table cell? I do not know.
