Hello everybody,
now I can state more precisely what my troubles were. I actually did "Reconfigure" (many times ;-) - well, I should be ashamed if not, as it's written in the instructions very clearly.
There is NO problem if you put the LyX bundle in /Applications. However, the instructions say "Drag the LyX icon to [...] your preferred location". I did so. We use a program hierarchy where the folder names contain spaces and other stuff, so I initially put LyX into
/Applications/ Text & Layout/TeX/
and maybe because of that strange path, it couldn't find any classes. But now everything's alright.
