You will have to use ERT, say I want to write the word "Hallo" with extra space between letters: H\kern0.5ema\kern0.5eml\kern0.5eml\kern0.5emo The em unit in latex is equivilent to the width of a lower case "m", so I am half an em of space between each letter.
