I'd be interested to find such reference applied to menu structures.

Note that nothing prevents you from creating a kde.ui menu structure
(you can even piggyback on the existing structure, I believe).

It does not default to article, but to the new document default that
can be set in Layout>Document (although I agree this feature is not
obvious).
