On windows I've been using the MikTex/Winedt combo, which works pretty
well and was easy enough to install. Anyone have any experience with
either of these. I like them, MikTex allows one to update Latex
packages fairly easily and WinEdt is powerful but w/a bit of a learning
curve w/regard to some of its macro & similar facilities.

Actually, I'm about to try installing Lyx in a few minutes;

>From what I've been able to gather I should run i-installer to obtain
tex then go for the lyx installation afterwards. My concern is w/regard
to the MAC OS which I know so little about: if I'm required to place
something in some app directory, etc, as part of the install, that's
where I may go off track...

Subject: Re: MAC OS X

I have been running LyX since 1.0.something and
the Mac version has been one of the most trouble
free to install. I have tried to install the
Wincrap version on my computer at work and never
made it work to my satisfaction (printing
problems and such) so you may find the Mac
version to be Linking the spell checker has been
problematic but not unsurmountable. If you can
install LyX on a PC then a Mac will be a breze.

Is a good DVI viewer for the Mac, and Gerben
Wierda's TeX is a solid install.

Overall my LyX on Lac experience has been better
than my LyX on Wincrap experience.
