Well it is a wrong behaviour and a broken one on platforms without a middle button (Windows, Mac OS/X). Clipboard management on X11 was standardized 3 years ago between Gnome / KDE / Qt http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Standards_2fClipboardsWiki Another problem is that cut&paste between two LyX windows only work with plain text and you'll lose all LyX formatting information.
