I realize that notes nowadays really can supersede the comment
environment, keeping your Styles and Structure intact.

I was not aware of this, not using them much since the times they were
ugly xforms-insets knowing only "standard" text (and not even recognizing
my <Delete> key).

So you need the Comment only, if you want the outcommented text to
appear (as comment) in the LaTeX source.

If "Comment-like Note" means a note that goes into the *.tex in a
\begin{comment} \end{comment} block, the IMHO LyX 1.4.0 should really
get rid of the Comment Style and tex2lyx should translate existing
comments into notes.
