LyX's BibTeX parser isn't really a parser at all. You can defeat it very
easily. One of the things it assumes is that each line is a complete
entry, so you'll need to wrap your long author list, like attached.
Now that we have tex2lyx, a formally correct latex parser, it should be
possible to create a formally correct bibtex parser on top of it. This
won't happen before LyX 1.4 is released though.
You don't need {...} inside the author list. BibTeX will do the right
thing. Things like {Di Cannio},~A.~J. ? Use the CiteX natbib form.
(There's a check button on the citation dialog.) You also don't need to
protect spaces.
