I tried this, and the file size was changed significantly, though the
problem still persisted.

And this, too, though that didn't work either.

Thanks for the ideas.  Is there anyway to tell if a given .eps file is
"good" EPS or not?  For the record, this .eps file was generated using
GnuPlot.
