I had to run configure manually again and copy the files. The
combination of both, replacing the Files in ~/Apllication Support/LyX
with the manually generated AND entering the PATH prefix in LyX
Preferences produced a working installation.
I conclude, that running Reconfigure from the Edit menu simply doesn't
do the job.

Georg (or others having this problem) -
Try this (which works for me on a clean 10.4 machine):
1. Delete (or, if you have things you want saved, move out of the way)
the Library/Application Support/LyX folder.
2. Start LyX.
3. Edit the PATH Prefix as I specified before (entering
"/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-
current:/usr/X11R6/bin:/sw/bin:/opt/local/teTeX/bin", without the
quotes).
4. Edit > Reconfigure, and restart LyX.
5. Edit > Reconfigure, and restart LyX. (Yes, do it twice!)
6. Try creating or opening a file and viewing the PDF output (View >
PDF, or some such variant).
Does that work?
