This is an addendum to my first detailed reply.
I reinstalled stable lyx-1.3.6_win32_setup_v1.exe
to C:\Lyx and it installed and works as expected.
I notice that I saw more of the underlying
process of installation appearing in a command
window during the lyx136 install than I saw
with lyx137 install. But perhaps seeing that
doslike process was deliberately suppressed.
This is my current path_prefix statement from lyxrc.defaults
\path_prefix
"C:\msys\1.0\bin;C:\Python24;C:\texmf\miktex\bin;C:\Perl\bin;C:\gs\gs8.13\bin;C:\ImageMagick"
which is also included and part of my Windows path.
