If I am not mistaken, these fonts are only useful with old-style
server-side fonts. For the qt frontend, only client-side fonts are
used.

So the old code was only useful with the xforms frontend. We try to do
things 'automagically', but it turns out that it is much better to
request sysadmins to install the required TeX fonts on their system in
the way they prefer.

And LyX still works without these fonts, although the result is less
pleasing.
