hello

i am generally confused and unhappy about float placements.

i experience two issues of major concern:

1)

in a two column article with spanning and non-spanning floats the figures
can be output in reverse order in the resulting pdf. this can to some extent
be remeied by adjusting the float placement rule to !htp and putting the
figure floats in lyx at the top or bottom of the section (trial and error).
however, even if the order of figures are fixed in this way, i think that
way too much whitespace is introduced around the figures. i guess that is
due to the t & p policies from the !htp statement (here/top/page) ? --- if i
remove these, then the spanning figures gets moved to the bottom of the
document ...

2)

i have a short section at the end of the article just before the references.
this section includes a small spanning table that is inserted in the middle
of the reference section no matter what i do. that is not what i meant --- i
want the table inside the section where it belongs!

suggestions please ...
