LyX 1.4.0 Mac: \boxed does not display a box around equations

When using a document class article (AMS), version 1.4.0 (Mac) does  
not display a box around an equation when using the \boxed command  
(used to work fine in 1.3.7).  The box does show up when viewing the  
PDF output.  Is there a setting that needs to be changed to toggle  
the display onscreen?
