Yes, yes, I agree. Moreover, it would be quite helpful to have the
auto-replace feature to increase one's productivity of typing. By
auto-replace feature I mean that feature that automatically replaces text,
as one types, with predefined strings. For instance, "br" would expand to
"Best regards", "uni" to university, and so on, according to the
predefinitions of the user.

  As long as this can be turned off I won't put up a fuss. I despise this
"feature" in OO.o. When I'm writing, I'm writing. I don't want a computer
finishing my words, telling me I misspelled something, or pointing out that I
dropped soup on my tie. I'll check the spelling on _my_ schedule, thank you
very much.

  Now, if the F7 key was tied by default to the spelling checker as it used
to be, I'd be content.
