I use LyX extensively for writing math equations and I often derive equations in LyX directly (rather than on paper). So a friendly gui is very helpful. I recently switched from LyX 1.3.7 to 1.4.1 (Mac OS X, Qt interface) and I have been very pleased with the improvements in 1.4.1. But there are changes that seem to have occurred which significantly alters the feel of 1.4.1 compared to 1.3.7.

I have attached a sample document which contains a single equation. At least two things seem to be different between 1.3.7 and 1.4.1 (I ran them side by side with the same sample document):

1) In 1.3.7, I have no trouble clicking the mouse to locate the cursor between the '1/2' fraction and left square bracket '['. In 1.4.1, I can't seem to be able to do it (the cursor insists on moving to a neighboring location in the formula). I can only move to that location with arrow keys.

2) In 1.3.7, if I use the mouse to select the entire expression in square brackets (and the leading '1/2' fraction) starting from left to right, the entire bracketed region will be highlighted as soon as the mouse moves over half of the bracketed expression. In 1.4.1, the bracketed region will not be highlighted until the mouse moves over the right bracket (i.e., the entire expression). Moving from right to left, 1.3.7 behaves consistently, but 1.4.1 highlights the bracket almost instantly.

These changes are not peculiar to this specific formula. They seem to reflect changes in the gui, and I am not sure if they were intentional. Any thoughts? Has anyone else experienced these changes?
