LyX code undesirably transforms the whole paragraph

Dear All

I would like to insert some LyX code inside a paragraph. However, when
I select the piece of text in my paragraph and then I select "LyX
code", I get, undesirably, the whole paragraph as LyX code. How can
one solve that problem? (I am using LyX 1.4.1.on Fedora Core 5.)
