There was a discussion on the list not too long ago about running LyX from a flash drive. You might be able to find it in the GMANE list archive. (Sorry, don't recall the details, and in particular whether anyone pulled it off.) It's also on the Wiki in poll of requested features (http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/FeaturePoll). You might want to chime in there.
